Short Prayers week

01.19.2009

The benefits of praying short prayers… If you recall, last week I wrote about how I created a prayer challenge for myself basically scheduling a short prayer every hour that took priority over everything else. The goal of it was to shift my prayer time from bigger blocks to more continual shorter spurts of prayer throughout my day. Inspired by 1 Thessalonians 5:17 that we should “pray without ceasing” I wanted to use this as a conditioning exercise to push myself more in that direction.

Free and Legal TV and Movies online

01.14.2009

I was going to name it something like “where to find free TV and Movies online,” but changed it to make sure I added “legal” in there. It turns out that a whole lot of what I was finding wasn’t legal. I saw a link on one site to “Marley and Me” and I thought to myself, “isn’t that still in the theaters?” Sure enough I was right, as the video started, I noticed that I could actually see the theater seats in the recording. I guess someone recorded it directly from the theater – I am going to assume that isn’t legal. :)

How to create lifelong memories

01.11.2009

Pictures stir up memories I still remember being a kid (yes, that is me in the picture) and my mom telling me to smile for pictures. … Like a good mom, she made me smile and tried to convince me that they would mean something to me someday.Bobby 4 years 1985.jpg I don’t know if it is because I am older, but I am starting to realize the value of making memories. … Memories are more valuable than money Having watched my parents go through some challenging times financially when I was younger, I appreciate that they were just as interested in creating memories for us as they were filling the bank accounts.

Free Franklin Planner templates

01.04.2009

If you are like me and a little bit taken back by the high price of replacing the pages in your Franklin planner, I just found a great alternative. It does require a little bit of an upfront investment and some elbow grease, but it should pay for itself very quickly. ..What you need to create your own planner pages… Paper – probably a thin stock, to keep your planner from becoming too bulky…

Surviving the inevitable Credit Card crisis

12.31.2008

This isn’t really surprising if you think about it, but we can be sure that the credit card companies will be changing some policies as they adapt.

…The good news is that there have been so many complaints over the last few years that the government has stepped in and is creating new rules to prevent credit card companies from doing this. … Card companies will have to give consumers 45 days notice of any interest rate changes, up from the 15-day notice period currently in force, and give them more time to make payments.

The 10 most common new year’s resolutions – is yours on here?

12.26.2008

I did some researching to find out the 10 most common new year resolutions – these are them! I am not much of a supporter of new year resolutions, I don’t like waiting around for a specific date to make positive life changes. That said, I guess some people don’t really think about making positive life changes until the new year rolls around. Out of curiosity, I did a little digging to see what seemed to be the most common new year resolutions that people strive for. It probably isn’t much of a surprise that more than a few are financial goals…

Two new productivity tools I like

08.31.2008

I am a sucker for saving time. It is like a slight obsession to me. I remember discussing with a friend of mine strategies for how we could shave minutes off our morning routines. Brushing my teeth while in the shower was one of the failed, yet humorous, attempts to save time.

Your financial life on one page (FLOP)

07.16.2008

Being impacted by my uncle’s premature death and wanting to do everything I can do to help my wife, I decided to create a system for keeping things organized. It has been a work in progress over the last few years, but has evolved into a very helpful tool. Simply put, it is a single file or location for all your financial account details. I call it a FLOP (Financial Life on One Page). FLOP sounds a little cooler than FLOOP, but not much ;)

The Bible on healthy living

07.10.2008

Since then I have read a couple books that gave me a Biblical understanding of health. The beauty is that it is pretty simple. The one book that I would recommend to anyone to read is called “What the Bible says about Healthy Living”" by Rex Russell. Considering all the benefits from being healthy, this book could possibly be the most life-changing book that I have read (other than the Bible – duh ;) ).

Shop online more securely

07.09.2008

It is a little do-dad that pops up whenever you land on a page that has a field to enter a credit card number. It then offers to generate a one-time credit card number for you to use on the merchants site. If you say yes, it then generates the number, fills it in for you along with a generated expiration date, and even the extra 3-digit code if needed. Once the transaction is complete, the plugin offers to take a screenshot as a receipt for you and then the money comes directly out of your Paypal balance.
