Kurt Cameron’s “Fireproof”
Last week Linda and I watched Fireproof after hearing some recommendations from friends about it. I had been a little skeptical because I have seen some “Christian” movies that have been a bit too cheesy for my tastes. While Fireproof had a few of those moments, I must say I was impressed with how powerful of a movie it was – especially considering how low-budget it was. I heard that all the actors were from Kirk Cameron’s church – I haven’t verified that, so don’t take it to the bank.
Either way, for a marriage on the rocks, or one that wants to get stronger I don’t think there is a movie I could recommend more highly. Even if everything is perfect in your marriage, it is a good boost.
Have you seen it yourself? What did you think?

Wow! You’ve been missing out if you haven’t seen any of the films released by Sherwood Pictures until now. They’ve got two others, Facing the Giants and Flywheel, which are also worth watching. Their movies keeping better and better. It’s just a little church down south doing this pictures and most of the actors are amateurs…volunteers from the church (not Kirk Cameron’s church, though). Check out http://www.sherwoodpictures.com. Both the movies and the story behind them are inspirational!
I really liked the movie as well. I have to say the other two movies they’ve made had no where near the budget of Fireproof, but still managed to make money. Enough money that they could spend a million dollars on Fireproof. The other two contained way more of those cheesy lines you talk about also.
My church just got done doing a marriage series based around the movie. If you’re interested I blogged about it on my website. Here’s the link to the first week.

First, thanks for the link love! I appreciate it!
Second, I have seen Fireproof. While it’s a great message to challenge our men to never, ever leave their “partner” behind, I had a problem with the movie. It really bothered me that the wife never had to “account for” her emotional affair (at best) and never had to own up to any of her bad behavior. I think it gives the wrong message to women. I felt like the movie was saying that because the man was involved in pornography, the woman was forced to go elsewhere and that the man’s sin was worse than hers. Sin is sin in God’s eyes, and we are the only one’s in charge of us! I really hope they make a sequel where the wife learns some thing about herself in light of her now following Jesus.
Audra,
you know that is a good point – I was feeling the same way in the movie as well
I left a comment on the forum…does it matter where? Anyway…thanks for the chance to win the DVD. I loved the movie, very intense and emotional. I think there were alot of things to learn in the movie. I don’t agree as someone commented that the wife didn’t have to account for her wrongdoings..it was all understood, how she was feeling about it. Also, I believe that the focus was supposed to be on the husband and his journey to God and learning to love his wife. I thought it was great! Appreciate the talk about it.
(By the way, I’m surprised you posted on this movie and DVD, and didn’t realize the actor’s name is Kirk (not Kurt) Cameron. Was that just a “in a hurry” kind of a mistake?
I absolutely LOVED this movie. My husband and I saw it together. Great message about marriage and great message about Jesus!
Nice site. I haven’t seen or heard about Fireproof but my interest is piqued. Thanks, Scott (above) for pointing out the other films released by this company…. makes me think about money lessons in other films.
A really good Christian film is ‘Live Fast, Die Young’ in case you haven’t seen this. Real tear-jerker as well.

hi.
i really loved the movie.Fireproof was really an eye opener to me as a christian.what i really enjoyed is that it doesnt tackle marriage issues only, but it also tackles life in general.we dont want to forgive those who trespass against us but we want the Lord God Almighty to forgive us.As a wife,i also learnt that i have to love my husband as i love my neighbour, then i can love him as my “lover” afterwards.i wish that this movie could get a lot of exposure so that a lot of people can watch it.it will also help those whom their going through a rough time in life and also those who have marriage problems.
