It is estimated that 145,000 vetrans and active military are eligible for this Stop Loss Special Pay. So far only 25,000 have applied.

As part of the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act, Congress approved this Special Pay. Military and Vetreans that involuntarly served or were on "Stop Loss" from September 11, 2001 to September 30, 2009 are entitled to $500 for each month served past their contracted end-of-service, resignation or retirement date.

The eligible vetran or service member or their survivors must apply for this special pay benefit by October 21,2010. Each branch of service has it's own critereia and application process. for more information: http://www.defense.gov/home/features...0710_stoploss/
