Default Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University Home Study Package

A small group of women in our area (far south suburbs of Chicago, IL) are interested in learning the 13 principals taught in Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. The class is offered at our church, but at the price of $100 for each person and we can't afford that. We are hoping to purchase a used copy of the 2009 home study program inexpensively (retails at $229) or borrow the set for our group for the next few months. If, however, someone were to donate it because they have graduated and are no longer in need, that would be incredible and we would happily pay that forward by helping another group in need! Is there anyone out there who can help us?

I haven't taken the FPU class, but I think you would be better off paying the $100 for the class. I missed my chance when it was in town when I thought the same thing: too expensive. So I just got borrowed "The Total Money Makeover" book from the library and started his plan. I also listen to the radio show podcast. The show has psyched me up so much, I wish I had spend the $100 to go to the class. Considering the thousands of dollars of debt I have to repay, $100 for instruction and motivation definitely seems worth it.

I agree with zuzuernie, I would like to go to the class the next time it is in my area. My wife and I are still on baby step #1 ($1000 emergency fund), we hope to have it finished by the first of the year (2011).

My wife and I have the home study (it includes both the DVDs and CDs). Well worth the money because we are able to watch at our leasure (we have made every Monday night our FPU night), and we do not need to hire a baby sitter (which alone saves us the difference in cost... 13 classes x 13 nights of babysitter). Additionally, we can always watch a certain class again if needed.

I've been through the class but also thought it was pretty expensive. Since then I have found other classes/sites that teach the same principles but for a much better price. One really helped:
    www.savingwithrenee.com
Her site is only 4.99/month and you get all her videos and she goes into how to get out of debt, save money, how to cut your bills in half, save on groceries, establish emergency funds and retirement, how to pay everything off quickly, travel for free, and much more. Since she is not as well known as Dave Ramsey she charges a minimal fee but I found the information to be about the sae as Dave's plus she gives practical advice on how to save on every day things.
The other option would be to get Dave's book at the library (I've seen it there for free- plus the audio book ) and just get a group of friends together and try it on your own.

    Hope that helps!
