If you have never tried cleaning your coffee pot with vinegar, it really is pretty easy. The video below shows the steps in thorough detail, but the gist of it is simple:

Run a 50/50 mixture of Vinegar and water through the coffee pot. Afterwards you will probably want to do 2 runs with just water to remove any lingering vinegar. And if after that you still smell a little bit of vinegar in the carafe you can fill it with warm water and a teaspoon of baking soda. After it sits for a few minutes you should be good to go!

8 other great uses for vinegar

1. Insect bites

Pat vinegar onto insect bites to relieve the itch and pain

2. Sunburn

Believe it or not spritzing a little vinegar onto sunburns helps soothe and cool the skin.

3. Clogged Showerheads

Our showerhead occasionally fills up with mineral deposits from the water. You can just soak it in a 50/50 mixture of Vinegar and warm water and it will dissolve all the gunk away!

4. Vacation air-freshener

You can leave a small container of vinegar in each room of the house while you are gone on a trip and it will keep the air fresh.

5. Wash your washing machine

Every once in a while, you can clean out the washing machine by  adding a 1/2 cup of vinegar to a warm water cycle (without any clothes). Let it run for a complete cycle.

6. Keep your car frost-free

If your car stays outside during the winter you can spray a solution (3 parts vinegar/1 part water) to the outside of your windows. It will keep them frost and ice-free.

7. Remove a bumper-sticker

Coat it with vinegar a couple times until the liquid has thoroughly penetrated the paper and scrape it away with a plastic scraper.

8. Extend the life of your roses

If you bring home roses for your wife, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of white sugar to the vase to keep them looking good longer.

What vinegar secrets do you have?

Tip number three reminds me of a funny story. I tried it, using a ziploc baggy filled with vinegar which I then used a twist-tie to close around the shower head. I left it to soak over night. The next morning, my husband got up before I did and went to take his shower. He got in, turned on the water, waited a beat or two and looked up to see why water wasn’t coming down, just in time to have the baggie explode (showering him with vinegar, full in the face).

Good times!

LOL, that is really funny, I can imagine that happening to me – even if I put the bag on there!

I got two.

1. Clean glass in the shower.
2. Apply a 50/50 water to vinegar solution on lettuce and it will crisp up

Great story Jenny.

Vinegar also can be used as a weed killer. 10 parts water 1 part vinegar and spray those pesky weeds, they will die in about 24 hours. I think it also kills grass so beware.

I just found a new one. My dishwasher had clogged due to using a bad dishsoap. I ran it through many cycles even with new soap, with no luck. I put vinegar in and let it run through and now all the dishes were clean, the machine is running fine AND I don’t need a product like jet dry at the moment because everything is drying much cleaner.

Don’t forget it tastes great on fish and chips (French Fries for my American friends).

You can use the coffee maker directions on how to clean your iced tea maker too.

My vinegar is my cleaning hero since I don’t want my children cleaning with chemicals. Here’s what we use that seem to work just fine:

pure white vinegar for cleaning the toilet bowl
1 C. white vinegar + 1 C. water for kitchen, bath and floor all purpose cleaner
1 C. isopropyl alcohol+ 1 C. water + 1 T. white vinegar for glass and mirrors

A whole lot cheaper than all those chemicals too :)
