No one really wants money
Is it really money that everyone is after?
It isn’t. But yet Solomon said, “He who loves money will not be satisfied with money…” (Ecc 5:10)
Last I checked, we still can not eat money, knit a shirt from it, or build a roof with it. So, a million dollars while stranded on an deserted island is about useless.
No one really wants money, but rather, they want what they think it will provide. Some want to get out of debt, have a BMW, buy a yacht, feel a sense of financial security, and some want to have the prestige or power they think it will bring. But the pieces of cloth that we call cash is ultimately not what people are interested in.
And of course, even the things that money may provide shouldn’t be sought after.
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

1. On a desert island buring 1 million dollar notes would probably last longer than burning a bible

3. I really want money, both for simple fun of charting my net worth, and also because I’m a numismatist, so I collect bank notes for their aesthetic and historic worth. Therefore your opening assumption that “no-one” really wants money is quite obviously false.

2. Adsense is on all of the pages, and yea it is interesting to see what types of “related” content ads they show. BTW, if you ever see a specific one that is clearly shouldn’t be on this site, let me know and I will exclude it on Google.
3. As far as you wanting money for numismatic purposes - you are correct, you truly do want money… But for your net worth wouldn’t you say it is for the anticipated encouragement or security that you feel from an increasing net worth? If we had hyper-inflation going on (like some countries in Africa) where you need a wheel barrow full of cash to buy a loaf of bread - would your net worth statement really mean anything?

Personally, I like the sense of security actually having money brings. I like the idea of being able to financially survive life’s emergencies comforting.
Great read! As Solomon said money will never satisy. Rockefeller was once asked how much money would it take to satisy him and his response was “one more penny, always just one more penny”.

It is impossible to live without money. I think that people have a lot of different reasons for wanting more money and some are better than others. It is nice to think that I can earn more so that I can add a significant amount into the household pot. It means we can pay our mortgage off earlier, get some sources of passive income and then be in comfortable situation where we hopefully can help our children out. I think if you are just striving for money so that you can buy more posessions then you should perhaps reevaluate your goals.
