About 7 years ago or so I read Zig Ziglar’s See You at the Top and it helped me begin to see the world in a different light. I had never read a “self-improvement” book of any kind before that and since this one was my first I have a fond affection for it.
“See You at the Top” opened up my thinking to allow me to start dreaming and thinking beyond my scope. Prior to reading it, I had always had a very limited hope of how my life would turn out and what I would be able to accomplish. Zig has a wonderful ability to help you see more in yourself than you ever knew was there. You can’t help but read this book and get inspired and become excited about who God made you to be.
Looking back I can now see how many Biblical principles were wrapped up in the book. Zig does mention scripture, but I would venture to say that most (if not all) of the main points that See You at the Top presents are Biblically based.
Outline of the book
I found a review on Amazon that provides a simple, but thorough, outline of it…
- Success starts with self-image because you are the only one who can make that possible. Before you convince anyone else, you have to convince yourself.
- Successful people are “Good Finders”, they look for the good in other people. “You can have anything in your life, if you help others get what they want”
- No goals = no game. Activity is not accomplishment. Don’t be a wandering generality. Goals should be big, long range, daily and specific.
- Unlimited possibilities. Records were meant to be broken. Until Roger Bannister ran the four-minute mile, most thought it was physically impossible. After his achievement, people broke the record constantly.
- Work as a team. There is a limit to what you can accomplish by yourself. Example: Geese fly 72% farther by flying together.
- Attitude is everything. It determines the outcome. While you cannot control the environment, you (and only you) can control your attitude. The pessimist says, “I will believe it when I see it.” The optimist says, “I will see it when I believe it.”
- Create good habits because habits define our lives. Example: The average teenage student watches 17,000 hours of television before they graduate high school.
- Successful people enjoy their work.
- Keep going. “The price of success is less than the price of failure”

Bob–#9 is a real wake up call–so true!
I had a chance to see Zig at a convention in Atlanta a few years ago. He was 78 at the time, and both physically and by attitude he was the best example of a “senior citizen” I’d ever seen. Interestingly he made a point of saying “I don’t exercise to lengthen my life–only God knows how long I’ll live–but to improve the quality of my life while I’m here”.
This man is a walking example of faith. Age isn’t a factor to him, he’ll be firing on all cylinders right up until the day he’s called home, as if he’s preparing for a smooth transition into eternity, supremely confident it’ll all be well with him. What an example!
I can’t really remember what made me see I could accomplish whatever I set out to do. I think I always had that knowledge… what I did not always realize – until a few years ago – was the necessity of a crazy work ethic! Now that I am committed to work hard to reach my goals… I am confident I will reach them, it’s just a matter of patience, fortitude, & faithfulness!
Thanks for the mention Bob… I appreciate it.
What helped motivate me was knowing the cost of failure would be devastating. In my case, very very devastating. So I had to “get ‘er done”. Necessity is the mother of invention…right?
ps…thanks for the link!
