While Linda and I were engaged we read the Five Love Languages together. We didn’t know there were five languages of love and It didn’t much make sense why we should be reading this book together, because we hadn’t even had our first “fight” yet…

I recently finished reading Austin Pryor’s Sound Mind Investing Handbook. I am in the process of writing a more elaborate review, but for the giveaway post, I will try to keep it short. Basically, the SMI Handbook is a very thorough and comprehensive guide to managing your money Biblically. It is essentially a textbook that walks the reader through each step of managing his/her money chapter by chapter.

This week we are giving away a year long subscription to Kiplinger’s. I have pretty consistently subscribed to Kips for the last 5-6 years and frequently find some articles of value. I still remember a particular stock pick I made, thanks to their suggestion, that paid off handsomely. I figure that will cover my subscription costs for a while.

James Earn Jones reads the bible… If you haven’t listened to the James Earl Jones Audio Bible then you are missing out. I remember listening to cassette tapes of this back in the day, but thanks to the wonders of modern technology it is now on CD. The Washington Post said, “somehow that voice of his - calm, deep, powerful….makes the words seem more thrilling than ever….” - I have to agree…

Kurt Cameron’s “Fireproof” Last week Linda and I watched Fireproof after hearing some recommendations from friends about it. I had been a little skeptical because I have seen some “Christian” movies that have been a bit too cheesy for my tastes. While Fireproof had a few of those moments, I must say I was impressed with how powerful of a movie it was - especially considering how low-budget it was. I heard that all the actors were from Kurt Cameron’s church - I haven’t verified that, so don’t take it to the bank.

So for the giveaway, I was remembering back to a little book called The Money Answer Book by Dave Ramsey that I enjoyed. It is almost like a quick-reference guide to a bunch of money related questions. A good book to have on your bookshelf.

It is not as thorough as the Dictionary of Finance and Investment Terms (Barron’s Finance and Investment Handbook) , but as I mentioned before, I don’t think it is designed to be. … And it is nice that the definitions are easy for most people to understand, I just wish it would have been a hard-cover - because I would like to keep it for a few decades. I have had my eye on this magazine for a while. I haven’t subscribed, but I let my fingers take a stroll through the pages whenever I see one in the line at the supermarket. While I am not always successful, I love having things organized and being as minimalist with things as possible. This magazine is great for people like me. Real Simple touches on lots of these topics and is really a good read for people like to simply and organize aspects of their life. It is a little bit girly, but there is still plenty that I find interesting in the issues I see.
