$2 gas anyone?

10.30.2008

$2 gas… I am not sure if we will break the $2 mark, but if oil prices keep dropping like they have been, I think it is a very real possibility. Has anyone seen $2 gas yet?

New US dollar coins

10.24.2008

What do you think about the new US dollar coins? As you may have heard, the U.S. Mint has been encouraging Americans to start using the new dollar coins rather than $1 bills. In fact they are going to be spending about $12 promoting the project. Since coins last a lot longer than bills, the Federal Reserve estimates that replacing dollar bills with coins would save the country over $500 million.

If credit were a plant (or a cactus)

10.22.2008

The credit cactus… I found this and think it is very true. Our nation has become so over-extended and as a result, many creditors have tightened the purse strings. This cartoon depicts it well…

$40 survey for CPF readers

10.17.2008

I took the survey myself, just so I could give you more accurate details. There are actually 2 surveys, the first one pays $10 and is basic and simple questions about your debt situation and what would help you get out of debt. It took me 8 minutes to complete.

The second survey which pays $30 requires that you go play around with the tool and then provide feedback. The feedback portion is very short – it only took me about 3 minutes, but they may want to call you to ask you a few questions (less than 20 minutes). Either way, whether they call or not, you will get paid $30.

Recession cycles

10.02.2008

After receiving quite a few questions about our current recession and other concerns about the U.S. Economy I thought it would be good to share a bit about the history of economic cycles in the U.S.

Happy October!

10.01.2008

Well, September was a good month for me, but I am excited that we are finally getting some Autumn weather. Did I mention I love the Fall. Actually, I love all the seasons. I guess I just like change. People make fun of my wife and I because we re-arrange our living room so much. We just can’t help ourselves – it is just too fun!!

Anyway, since I am currently sitting on the beach (don’t get jealous, I am praying that you get great vacations too!) I will leave you with some of the more popular articles from September – in case you missed them.

A lot going on…

09.20.2008

I just officially got approval from NASB for a project I have been working on… the Bible scriptures podcast… These are basically most of the verses that are in the Bible verses about money page in audio form. To be honest, I just wanted to be able to listen to specific scriptures sorted by topics myself, so that is why I (and my lovely wife) created these. After we created a few I figured that if it was helping me, maybe others would want them as well. So, they are not professionally done at all, but if you want to check them out – you can here.

FauxPlomas and the watering down of college degrees

09.13.2008

I just read an interesting article on FoxNews about the FauxPloma industry. Basically, a Fauxploma is a fake diploma as the name suggests. Evidently “Diploma Mills” seem to be increasing in number as more people are looking for a quicker way to become a college grad – on paper anyway.

HD Car Stereo for under $50?

08.30.2008

I didn’t really care about getting an HD radio that much, but since I am getting one anyway, why not at least look into it. It turns out that Crutchfield.com (probably the best place in the world to buy a car stereo by the way) has a Dual Car stereo that plays MP3 CDs, has an aux input, and is HD radio ready for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate. … HD Radio Stations I also wasn’t sure how many HD radio stations there were in my town, so I did a little digging and you can find out how many HD stations there are near you by clicking here .

Introducing the Christian Financial Forums

08.28.2008

I have been wanting to start forums for a while, but have just finally gotten around to it. You can access the Christian Financial Forums by clicking on the link. You can get your questions answered in the forums
Part of the reason is that while I love getting personal and specific financial questions from everyone, sometimes there is a lot to be gained by hearing multiple opinions. Proverbs says that there is safety in the multitude of counselors. The forums will provide a great opportunity for that. You can ask a quick question and get responses from any of the members.

“In God we trust” on our bills?

08.20.2008

MSNBC is doing a survey to see if people want “In God we trust” on our bills. As of Monday night there were over 2.5 million responses showing that 60% were still voting to keep it on the bills. The thought of removing it is so laughably foolish to me. I mean is it not evident to everyone in the world that the U.S. has been extremely blessed since it started a few centuries ago? It wasn’t our doing – it was God’s. We founded this country on Biblical principles, were blessed as a result, now 40% of the country wants to do away with even the smallest mention of God on our dollar bills. Wow.
