9 Jobs that won’t be outsourced any time soon

With jobs in just about every industry being shipped overseas for cheaper labor, it is interesting to see what jobs will likely stick around. I found this article (No outsourcing here: Jobs that are staying put) on Yahoo. I think preparing and planning your career is a better use of time and energy than picking a career based on something like this, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Looking at each of the jobs generates ideas of many other jobs that probably couldn’t be outsourced, but in the last decade a lot of jobs have been outsourced that people probably would have never dreamed would be…

1. Dental Assistant
It’s tough to clean teeth from across the world. A career as a dental assistant usually begins with an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.

2. Pharmacy Technician
People take their health seriously — that’s why a certification as a pharmacy tech is not likely to be outsourced.

3. Fitness Professional
It’s hard enough to be motivated in-person. Offshore encouragement won’t cut it. A career in fitness can begin with a certificate program.

4. Teacher Aide
Teachers need live help to care for kids. An anonymous, off-site representative just won’t cut it when it comes to educating our kids.

5. Auto Repair Technician
Most car troubles can’t be repaired with simple, over-the-phone instructions. An auto tech studies anywhere from 6 months to 2 or more years, and will always have a steady stream of live customers.

6. Pet Groomer
Along the lines of a dog trainer, pet grooming just must be done in person. This is usually only a certificate program.

7. Plumber
This career depends fully on local workers — plumbers definitely won’t be phoning in from overseas to unclog your toilet.

8. Veterinary Assistant
A pet’s health and happiness is of serious importance to most owners, and they won’t be putting it in the hands of foreign workers. You can become a vet assistant by completing a certificate program.

9. Electrician
This highly technical and hands-on job simply can’t be done any other way, except live and in-person.

I have to disagree with #6, I used to Fedex my dog to Wisconsin to get a haircut. J/K. What about you?

Not just teacher’s aids, but teachers in general. Any service that needs in person face to face contact won’t be outsourced any time soon. It’s all computer based jobs that you see heading over seas.

How about Public Service (police and fire)? :)

I agree with just todd. I don’t see public service sectors being outsourced anytime soon.

Being a full-time blogger, I don’t really have to worry about my job being outsourced (unless I outsource it myself :P )

I Don’t think any Government jobs can be outsourced.
Then again………. Eureka! That’s it! I have discovered what’s wrong with American politics :)

Seriously
This is a good list, I would also like to add one. I’m a caretaker for handicapped and elderly people. I don’t think that type of job can be outsourced either.

Nice list. What about working at a cannibas dispensaries. I dont think shipping medical marijuana from other countries can get pass customs. Stuffing in teddy bears, cd cases, vhs tapes, or the clay piggy banks can get by like in the past. Except coming from Mexico I suppose.
